Nursing to a paramedic

Hello all how are you? I was wondering a couple of things things thats have been on my mind.

(1) What are the differences between nurses and paramedics? training and knowledge?

(2) If you have a 3 year university degree in nursing, are you able to transfer to become a paramedic? if so, how?

All I really want to do is help people, I am enrolled in building design and technology ( draftsperson/ technical drawer) and was wondering perhaps poor countries or even our lovely country needs drafts people (building small houses? water ways? desinging water ways etc?).

II appreciate all replies that come through!

Re: Nursing to a paramedic

1) Nurses use assessment skills to treat people in a number of different situations whereas paramedics treatment only in emergent situations.

2) I have a friend who is a paramedic...I would think that perhaps the prereq's (A&P) would be simular; however, most courses do not transfer one-to-one, but any assessment skills and critial thinking learned in one area of healthcare would help in another.

People like those you mentioned are always in need. I went to a lecture last night by the founder of Doctors-Without-Boarders. Over half their personel are non-medical logistical and administrative support staff. They also have a huge need for public works people to set up systems to ensure the people have clean water and good sanitation.
