Re: Need some Motivation

One of my coworkers definitely motivated me to go on back for my RN...she gave me one of her check stubs from a travel assignment and told me to hang it on my mirror. I got motivation whenever I would get ready for school.
She knew how hard it was, and told me it wasn't easy, but it was as she put it, "do-able".
You can do it!!!

Re: Need some Motivation

Maybe you should do some soul-searching and ask yourself if you really want to become a nurse, and why. The reason I ask is that most of the tips you have gotten so far are from nurses who faced challenges in furthering their education. You are brand new to the profession and sound like you are not totally excited about it. I remember my nursing school days (25+ years ago), and I have a son who has been a nurse for 15 years, and a daughter currently in nursing school. Before they entered their programs, I gave them both the same advice - this is not going to be a picnic, there will be times you will want to quit, just ask yourself "Do I really want to do this?". I have seen a lot of people enter nursing school because they thought the job market was good and the pay was great, only to withdraw when they found out how challenging the curriculum is. Perhaps it is not your motivation, but the fact that you are finding the program a little more challenging than you anticipated. If you really like nursing, and by now you should know, stick with it. These forums are great for giving you the encouragement you will need. Get into a school study group if you are not already. And know that we have all felt a little pressured to succeed. My daughter has just finished her first semester in the same type of program you are in. She has just applied to the RN segment of the Program. I know it has been difficult for her, she was recently diagnosed with ADD, so studying is difficult for her. But she loves nursing, and is doing well. It will be worth it someday......
