more on nurse pay.. in LA, CA

I'm working towards a BSN in an accelerated program.

I'm wondering, does anyone know what the going rate is for a fresh out of school nurse with a BSN in Los Angeles, CA?

Trust me, I'm not doing it for the money, but, as I read in another thread, information is power.

what's the day rate?
what's the night rate?
weekend rate?

I keep getting too much of a range -- 50-60K also, how much of what I make will I actually get to take home? -- insurance costs and etc... I'd prefer to work in a hospital setting.

thanks ya'll!

I'm based all the way across the map in Florida so I really can't answer your question with much accuracy, but I can offer some advice. Find a couple hospitals where you might be interested in working, call their human resources depts and just ask them directly what you might expect to be paid given your qualifications. This is something that is done occasionally by many employers in order to stay competitive and is not at all unusual.

But keep in mind that salary dollars is not the whole picture. Benefits, time off, working conditions, retirement, and other variables can make a huge difference. Try to compare apples to apples as much as possible when doing a salary survey.

The UC system including UCLA, UCI and UCSD post their wages online. It's probably a good benchmark of the area also.

As a new grad I took a non-benefited position for a community hospital for 38/hr + 4.50 night diff.

Re: more on nurse pay.. in LA, CA

obviously, pay is higher out in CA, but here in PA it's.....well...... not so great! as a new grad I signed on with a community hospital for $18.75 hr, after passing boards jumped to $20.15/hr full time with benefits that I don't use and was not permitted to go perdiem and make $30.00/hr. Did you know that you can drive a pepsi truck and deliver soda and make $38.00/hr, and they are not trying to save anyones life!!!! Nursing salaries seriously need to change, anyone know how we can make that happen?:39:
