I start a lpn program in 2005,It is a 2 semester and 8 week program. The fastest one in the midwest. I am so excited about it but at the same time,Nervous as hell. Can you pleaseeeeeeeeeee give me some tips on how to get throu the training smoothly. And during the clinicals. What are those like? Any info would be helpfull. Also what all will I need for clinicals. I am applying for my student loans in a month or so and I need to get a idea of how much extra I should ask for. So this is sooooooooo inportant I get a good idea of exactly what I will need. Thanks so much.

Hi and Congratulations!
I am not a nurse, but I am in an RN program now and am starting my clinicals in August. So, I can't help you out as far as telling you how clinicals are. I'm not sure how it works there, but I have friends in other areas and both here and where my friends are, the school will give you an individual list of items and books that you need, and it does vary from school to school. Uniforms especially! Here, in FL, LPN's must wear Navy blue scrubs. My cousin in LPN school in GA has to wear a white dress uniform with a hat! I don't think that anyone here will be able to tell you exactly what you need, you will have to go to the school to figure that out. I just asked recently about which brands to buy for my clinical supplies and the people here were great, I am sure that you will get a lot of responses. I hope that someone can help you, but to get the cost of the program, you will most likely need to contact the school.

Just another note, I have never heard of an LPN program so short! That is great that you will be able to complete school in such a short time. It's 15 months for LPN and 24 for RN here.

Ty for the nice reply. I am gonna contact the school after I get my information packet in the mail. I am gonna apply real early and get that out of the way so that im not worring my self sick about this. Do you happen to know how many total clinical hours lpns have to do before the nclex-pn exam is taken? Is nursing school as hard as some people say it is? What is the most challing thing about it? Do college prof's care if you use calculators of any kind on tests? Or is this not kool? And what are the best ways to memorize all the mt?

by all means, wear WHITE uniforms... let's face it, if you wear dark uniforms, it will only hide the dirt... cant find a vein on that patient to start an iv? NO PROBLEM! just weat white and he'll bleed all over you! nothing, and i mean NOTHING, will make a constipated old crone poop faster that a white uniform...wear a white uniform and you'll learn that missiles AREN'T the only things on earth that are projectile!

you nursing instructors want you to get those "official" nurse shoes...because they are hiding a MAJOR trade secret from you... bear in mind...in the real world, there's a reason why so many nurses now wear (walkers, joggers, cross training, running) shoes...!!!

you'll want to buy one of those "pedometers" (mileage trackers)...so when you get home and finally get to sit down, you'll know why your feet hurt so much!!! you'll be able to calculate cost per mile on those expensive (walkers, joggers, runners, or cross trainers)...

invest in depends or attends...and that was NOT just a stock tip!!! of course, your total monthly cost on paper products, specifically toilet paper, will go down...

alcohol pads remove ink...cheap hospital pens like to explode in a white uniform pocket!!! and you thought nurses carried tons of alcohol pads in their pockets just to give shots...

and trust me on this one... caffiene, nicotene, sugar and advil won't become your drugs of choice...they'll become your four basic food groups!!!
