Long term care to Acute care setting?!?!?!

I am currently in my last semester of nursing school and am trying to figure my life out....I am currently an LPN at a long term care facility and owe them 1.5 years of sevice after I receive my RN license. I would love to work in acute care but may not be able to if I can not get a part time job in my current place of employment. My question is....does it look good or bad to potentially transition from long term care, after 1.5 years, to acute care?? I have heard conflicting info...some say that any type of experience is great and some say that after 6 months of working in long term care a potential acute care setting will not hire a RN r/t lack of skills, etc. Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks...

I can't speak from experience, but I would think any experience would be helpful. It may limit the positions they might consider you for at first though.

Just look for job postings that are open to new grads or nurses transitioning from sub-acute areas. Positions might say they are open to new grads or that it is a residency position.

Good luck!

While you are working at the LTC for 1.5 years, you could also pick up a PRN position at an acute care facility- this way you'll be getting a little bit of acute-care experience while you are "doing your time" at the LTC facility, and you'll have you foot in the door at the acute care facility when you are ready to switch.
