Re: Joint Survey

You were talking about a Mock Joint survey, Last Joint Commission Inspection (the real thing) I was charge in CCU. One of the patient in an other nurses charge fell. Well family was upset, patient did not have a clue and was not injured. The family went streight to the joint commission inspectors and told them all kinds of BS. I just wanted to tie a rope around my neck and jump out the window. I was supported by my director and Administration.

Re: Joint Survey

yep that was a mock joint but a few months ago it was state and I got that too. I either work too many days or the wrong ones At home health Joint was worse they would follow you all day to people's houses. It's really hard to go by all the "standards" when not everyone's house is up to standard. At least they didn't go with me then just talked at the office and went with someone else.

Re: Joint Survey

He heheehehe.. I was working agency in a NH once years ago when the state came in..They decided to folllow me during a med pass.. I got the cart out and took it into a four bed ward. And then washed my hands ..Looked at the first MAR and gave eyedrops..Calling the patients name, checking name band on patient and at foot of bed, telling them what I was giving, had a tissue ready to wipe excess away. Then used foam hand cleaner and then did all there other meds. Double checking and then washed my hands again before dispensing the po meds. And then on to the next patient. I washed my hands with the foam between each patient, after I did the eyedrops and before I actually gave the meds ( after getting them all in the med cup) .. LOL.. The surveyor finally said,,,"Ok I see you know how to wash your hands" Enough already... We were in the room for almost 45 minutes for those 4 patients..LOLLL She was more stressed than I was...

Re: Joint Survey

It does seem like you know how to "play the game" (smile). It's too bad they can't pay attention to quality of care issues in between inspections.

It's aggravating to have to put on a show knowing that in a couple of days, it will be back to the status quo.

Re: Joint Survey

Journeyman, I used to BE one of those state surveyors who was aggravated beyond tears with that hand washing drill. Seems no matter where I went, if the NH staff knew nothing else they had the cleanest hands in the state!!!

Being a FORMER state surveyor, I have stories that are worthy a thread of their own. One of these days.....
