| How many of you would do it over again?? If nursing was less stress, higher pay, doctors treated us like human beings, and school wasn't so darn hard, I probably would, but with the way things are now, I can't blame anyone who wants out. I got yelled at by a doctor for reporting a low potassium HELLO??? I wrote him up too. I expect to be treated professionally. Doctor's go to school several more years than we do, but that doesn't mean we are to be treated so badly. |

| Super Moderator | Re: How many of you would do it over again?? I'd do it again. Nursing has served me well since I graduated and started working. Always had a job and you can't beat the flexible hours. More than that, the career options being an experiened hospital nurse opened for me are fantastic. Getting through school and the first few years are the toughest, we still haven't learned that "eating our young" is counterproductive. Once you're past that period though, it gets much better. | Re: How many of you would do it over again?? Hi, Show me a nurse who has not asked this question before and I will show you someone fully out of touch! Nonetheless, it makes me sad when I hear it posed. Don't get me wrong--I have asked the question myself--on more than one occasion. That said, I think the answer is different for each of us. It may explain why nurses end up with so many letters after their name. Initially, I went back to school. Then I became very active in the professional association in my state and most recently I have taken to travel nursing--all in an attempt to reenergize. Lo and behold I have ended up in a part of the country with triple digit temps--just north of you in Tulare, California. Described to me by my recruiter as "a lovely agricultural valley that averages in the 80's". We should share notes. Anyway, I have decided to try to learn Spanish--you have to do something when you must remain indoors all day. So, I guess the question is: out of nursing? or out of traveling? kwk |

| Re: How many of you would do it over again?? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of the Home Health aspects of nursing, but staying up until 12:00 am filling out plans of care, plus all of the other things mentioned, burned me out. I started selling things online and now only work one day a week as a nurse. They want me back, but I am not there right now. My family needs me at home, not doing paperwork at home. |
