giving notice

are there any legal ramifications for a nurse who fails to work out a notice?

Re: giving notice

Hi blueyes...
I'm a nurse but not a lawyer but I may be able to share opinion if you care to tell us a little more about your situation. Are you working under any sort of contract (like a travel nurse) or are you an employee of a hospital or other health care facility?

The reason I ask is this.. if you have a contractual obligation and fail to live up to the terms of the contract then the other party might have recourse to pursue civil action to recover any monetary damages brought about by your breach of contract (if any damages come about because of your actions).

If you're a hospital employee though you're working "at will" and although they could (and probably would) give you a "not eligible for rehire" type of reference I don't believe they would have any "legal" cause for action against you.

Any lawyers or nurse-attorneys reading the boards care to share your thoughts?

What's your situation if you don't mind sharing it with us..?
