| Getting my BSN Hey guys, I had a couple questions. I am kinda taking the long way around to all of this. I started out getting my AA in nursing. Now I am doing my LPN. I want to end up with a BSN. My thought process was Nursing AA -> LPN -> RN -> BSN. I did this because its so hard to directly get into an RN/BSN program down here in miami. My questions I suppose is this. With having an AA and LPN within the year, How much of those classes would apply to RN and BSN? It seemed that the BSN for most colleges is my AA classes and strickly the RN ones.. but being that I am going to get my RN and have the AA, shouldnt that leave the BSN to be only a semester or two of nursing classes at most? I have all my chem and math up to BSN level completled. Also all of my anatomys and micro bio and such. I dont know if anyone can answer that... Im just trying to get a feel for how much schooling I really have left to do before I reach my goal. |

| Ashley Anne | Re: Getting my BSN Im actually doing the same thing. I wanted to get my RN but as you know its almost impossible to get into a prog (i've been trying for 2.5 yrs). I decided to do my LVN, I started an acclerated prog in Nov and will be done next Nov. I believe that if you have all of your RN pre-reqs. you should be ok. To go from LVN->RN its another yr. then 2 more yrs for your BSN. Hope that helps! Ashley

| Administrator | Re: Getting my BSN I had started out doing many pre-req's for my Associates, but the one program near me stinks. So....went the LPN route. When I finally went on for my RN-BSN, only had about 4 classes to complete, along with the clinical aspect. Not bad..... 'Cat' |

BTW, is it safe to assume your reference to AA is the same as AAS in Nursing, i.e. ADN? Good luck! | |

| Re: Getting my BSN I dunno.. Its an AA in nursing with 30+ extra credits of math, chem and biologies. I made sure to take any possible class I would need in a BSN that wasnt directly a nursing class. And atm I dont have any colleges picked out yet for a BSN because im not there yet. So I dont have a counselor that I can talk to =/ |

| Re: Getting my BSN I am currently in my last semester of an ASN program in missouri. I have LPN's in my class and they have been able to use their LPN license to get into our RN program at the 1/2 way mark (after fundamentals, OB, and Peds). They had to submot their transcripts from their LPN course to get credit towards their degree in nursing science. From what I know about their cases it depends on what your transcripts from LPN/LVN courses say as to where you enter in RN school. It's called an LPN to RN bridge program. Of course there are prereq's that must be completed prior to admission into the program, which vary by school and state. I hope that this helps to answer your question in some way. |
