Ethic's place in healthcare...

What do you think about this story? Ethic's place in health care evolving

Anyone ever deal with any ethical situations in their career so far? How did it get resolved?

Re: Ethic's place in healthcare...

We have them all the time L&D you have the pregnant woman then you have the fetus which is then the baby can she do whatever she wants with her body no matter the outcome of the baby? Had one who refused the recommended tx for her hypertension and refused monitoring 24/7 so baby is ok on the monitor then 2 hours later she suddenly gets a HA and B/P through the roof and baby is dead now shes sueing the MD...is that his fault for not tying her to the bed? I know she was informed should he have sent her home or refused to take care of her at all if she wouldn't follow advice or would she still sue because he wasn't taking care of her (case still out)

There are laws once the baby is out. What do you do with the micro premies? how much is too much or is there a too much? Do you keep working on them forever or turn things off and let the parents just be with the baby. What do we do with pregnant teens can a 13 yr old make decissions about her own delivery? she can't decide other things and what about her 30 yr old "boyfriend"? We all have obligation to report domestic abuse but what if the person denies it?

What do you do as a nurse when you know you have some crackpot MD do you tell the pt Your doc is nuts? go along with his plans if they don't hurt the pt but don't really help either?

What do you do about co-workers who are being unprofessional ie messing around with other married co-workers, MDs etc????
what if they are using resources?? ie long distance, taking pens, fudging time?
Are my morals your morals? which is right? is there a right? who decides?

I haven't had any of the pull the plug cases but I do know what my ideas are but can't put those onto others....can I????
