Question Dont know what to pick/do!

I tested into the RN program at Apollo College, but unfortunately came up 14K short to get in. Because of that, I had to do some rearranging of my life. I have the option of going to night school @ Apollo to either take the Medical Assistant course or the Pharmacy Technician course. I just want to be in the medical field. I HATE the job I am in right now, but need to keep it because I have bills to pay and noone to help me out.

My question is which one do I choose? They are both the same in length, cost, ect. I know I would eventually like to become a RN nurse. This way I can work in a non dead end job while eventually obtaing my RN degree....

Any advice is welcome!!

Thanks

Re: Dont know what to pick/do!

need more info. Did you apply for financial aid, FAFSA? Which of the two will the pay the most when you're done and has the greater chance of employment? Do some homework and list your pros and cons. Obviously which interests you the most? Personally, I think the MA job will be most beneficial to your learning.

all the best.

Re: Dont know what to pick/do!

I would pick neither. There are LPN programs in my area, Tampa,FL, that are 12-14 months long, and cost about $3500 in total. Entrance is by lottery, and basically you need a high school diploma and an adequate entrance test of 12th grade level performance. There may be similiar programs in your area. You can then go to a bridge program for RN also about 1 year long, again, several in my area at community colleges, which would undoubtedly be paid for by most hospitals that have tuition reimbursement as a benifit. At my hospital they also have scholarship programs for workers going further in their medical education; you might want to check the HR departments of local hospitals in your area for their benefits, etc. With the CNA and pharmacy tech programs you are dead ended. With LPN you have the options of going up to RN/ASN, then BSN, etc. Good luck either way.
