How do medical schools pay doctors to teach there? They must be away. Most instructors at my college are adjunct. There are only a few full time ones.

The old, "It's not you it's me" line! It's a good one!

Re: Discuss 'Nursing school rejects, take heart' here

Seems to me that a few more corporatrely and/or Federally held dollars "earmarked" for healthcare expenditure need to be diverted away from bureaucratic maintenence, especially in Washington and put into infrastructure nationally. Did Anthem Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim, Aetna or other healthcare insurance company file for bankruptcy or Federal aid this year? Nope, they're doing fine. The money is there folks, just look at your insurance premiums. You pay more and more and get less and less. Of what is actually paid out, how much of that goes into the physicians pocket, especially from Medicare? Very little by comparison which explains the new trend; doctors not participating in insurance plans any more, it's a stop loss for them. The insurance industry isn't complaining because they're keeping more money. The patient has to pay out for services and then navigate the reimbursement nightmare on their own and unless they're particularly savvy and have their own ICD-9 code book at home, they aren't getting what they're owed. Good for the doctor, good for the insurance company, bad for the patient. Yeah, I know, it's a relatively small percentage but it's a trend and a growing part of this very big problem.

Maybe the insurance industry should pay into a TAX EXEMPT fund dedicated for medical education subsidy. Schools can apply for grants to fund teacher salaries and students can apply for grants to fund tuition cost.

Now lets talk about the pharmaceutical industry and what their contribution could be...

Just heard an ear full from Mom about the insurance bit (Medicare, etc.) And I see the insurance taken out of the ol' paycheck and all.
