Complaining about a nurse in CA

Hello -- I found this forum looking for answers to my questions. I want to complain about the treatment I received from a nurse at a medical center ER in California. But I have limited information. The nurse's name tag was hidden and he declined to reveal his name when I asked. The doctor supervisor reluctantly disclosed a single word name which I don't know if it's a first or last name. It wouldn't be hard to find out if I knew the nurse's credentials. Question: Nurses whose job is to do patient intake, draw blood and collect urine samples at an ER, are they usually RN or VN or some kind of hospital technicians? In addition to the CA Board of Registered Nursing or CA Board of Vocational Nursing, is there a consumer organization where complaints about nurses can be filed? Thank you for your help.

Hi Xali,

I'm sorry that your experience was so terrible. It is well within your right to register a complaint with the California Board of Nursing, but may I suggest that you begin with the community relations department at the hospital where you were seen. They will be very interested to hear details about your experience and will likely make every effort to correct whatever went wrong and where appropriate, render disciplinary action. If you still don't feel as though your concerns were handled satisfactorily, you can escalate things from there.

Good luck,

R
