    communication on the road

Hey everyone, I'm new to this or any forum.."first post".. I have a question about communicating while traveling. I'm thinking about taking my first assigment sometimes this year. Question:. for those who use laptops while traveling, what type of connection do you use.."exuse my ignorance"..can you sign up with a server and just plug into the existing phone line at the apartment, or do you have to sign up everytime you move?...also , If I wanted high speed internet "cable".. how would I go about that..lastly, do you think most travelers just use cell phones instead of activating a land line phone at their location.. sorry for the length of this post. I'm just full of questions...thanks alot , leeman

The easiest thing would be to sign up for AOL or some other nationwide provider dial-up with a lot of local access numbers in a lot of places. Then you can dial into their numbers (hopefully where ever you go). Otherwise, check local internet service provider at each place you stay.

For cable access, you'll need to have it installed at each location, each time you move. If you're online a lot, might be worth it.

Cell phone voice quality is poor to start with, I'd rather pay for a land line depending on how long I planned on staying. For only a few months, it might be easier to go with a cell phone, up to you.

I think the best way for you to communicate with friends and family on the road would be email or cell phone. as far as getting a internet connection for a laptop...there are wireless cards that you can hook up and get internet anywhere you are..as far as a cable connection for your home...contact your local cable company they can help you out with that
