    New Traveler Lots of Questions

    Hi,
I am looking to travel at the beginning of January and have a lot of questions. I am finishing up my first year as a nurse in an oncology hospital working on a neuro floor. Is there any place to find good unbiased reviews of the travel companies? This site is great for any other information, but the reviews seem to be lacking information. So far, in my searches, I have found the nursing companies very eager to acquire me, and I have a feeling they are telling me what I want to hear while sugar coating any negatives. I am currently working in FL, and would like to go to California or Colorado Does anyone know how easy the endorsements for these two states are? How far in advance can I expect to select an assignment? Any hints/tips and advice would be greatly appreciated! Also is there anything that I should make absolutely sure of before selecting a company?
    Thank you
    ---S

Well, Aureus was too busy to check my references. They wanted me to call them while I was at work and have the charge nurse talk to them. Needless to say, the charge nurse looked at me like I was nuts. Then, that job evaporated so I told the Aureus rep I was interested in California. He told me that there were NO jobs in California, that they had a WAITING LIST of RNs who wanted to go there! Wow, after I got up off the floor and stopped laughing I hung up the phone and never talked to them again.

Re: New Traveler Lots of Questions

I too will be traveling soon, but have been looking for local assignments for the next 8-10 mths. I have been going through travel nurse agencies hoping to get some experience with one so when I do leave the state I will already be familiar with the company.Well, I have had no luck. I have signed on with several companies, but by the time they check my references I am told the position has "closed". I too am wondering which agenices are good to go with and who to steer clear of. I haveat least 12 travel nurse agencies either calling or emailing me every day and I am a bit overwhelmed. One thing I can say, I will not be working for Clinical One; they mailed me a letter after I went to all of the trouble you go through to fill out all the the numerous papers you have to fill out, and was told they were not interested in signing me on r/t "some evaluations and other details" the they "could not reveal the nature of" PLEASE???????????? Anyway if anyone can give any info I would appreciate it!

Re: New Traveler Lots of Questions

That is one of the biggest problems I have found. I am trying to narrow my search down to a couple good companies because I don't want 12 companies calling my work for references. It is going to be hard enough for the nurses on floor to make time for a couple companies to call... If anyone has advice as to how they atleast limited their search from the dozens of companies to a couple that would be great!! These companies are like vultures!!!
