| Re: can't get hired at hosp Ok, but does the facility's nursing dept or human resources dept have you listed as an RN or as an LPN there? If you're in an RN job there you shouldn't need to say anything on your new job application about "when" you graduated from "that" nursing school-- just that your present position is as an RN at such & such place & you've worked there since.... whenever..... I think.

| Re: can't get hired at hosp I don't know what state you are in but in California the BON recently won a High court decision against excelsior college. The Board here does not accept the clinical hours from this college as adequate and will not allow graduates to sit for the NCLEX. It could be that the schools reputation for turning out inadequately trained nurses is affecting your ability to get a job. I don't see that you should have a problem in your previous field of psych as your OTJ experience should speak for itself. However if you want to go into acute care you might want to look into a clinical refresher course. The community college where I got my RN offers a 15 week clinical course for new nurses and also for nurses that have been away from the field and are returning. 13 of those weeks is spent in acute settings and most people I have known who have taken the course have greatly benefititted (sp?) from it. I too am currently in psych and know that my clinical skills have gotten rusty. I would most likely take such a course if I returned to acute care. It will look good on your resume and you might be able to move into a job at the hospital where the clinical aspect is done! Hope this helps hppygr8ful |
