| Re: Advance Practice Nurse An Advanced Practice Nurse is also known as a Nurse Practioner. Some are known as Certified Nurse Specialists. NP's usually have a Master's Degree. Some have been trained years ago and are not Master's Prepared but I don't believe you can be an new NP now without a Master's degree. They work in all sorts of areas. NICU, Adult Health, Rural Health, etc. In many states an NP can prescribe medications. Physician's Assistants cannot. Big difference. PA's work under a physician's direction. They came out of wars. They were the medics Mostly Vietnam.. Highly trained men ( mostly) who had a skill that was utilized for civilian care. A Nurse Practioner can have their own practice. Hang out a shingle so to speak. They can practice independently. Many physicians use them in their practice though because it is very expensive to set-up a sole practice even for MD's. Most NP's now receive medicare reimbursement. IMHO if I were younger, lots younger, it's the route I would go.. Good luck on whatever route you decide. I might give one piece of advise. Work as an RN for several years first.. WR,,, three commas for Becca |
