if you want to work with newborns then you probably want nursery instead of peds.
Education: basic nursing school for basic nursing that covers all nursing you don't get just one thing in nursing school plus the core corses
Cost: depends on the school it's college so you can get grants and scholarships but public schools are in general cheaper the private ones
School years: depends on what kind of degree you want you can got 2 or more years depending on the degree and if you go full or part time
Degree: ADN (2 year) BSN (4 year) then you can also get MSN and doctorate in nursing just depends on what you want
Salary: again depends on the area of the country you are in. There are some references here as to salary around the country to compare
You can also get certification in certain areas after you have worked a number of hours there and taken more tests. You need to talk to you school counselor and visit colleges that interest you to see what they offer and require.
