Wink Help For A School Nurse!

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum and this is my first posting. I am currently in graduate school and working on completing my master's project. What I need help with is to find out what, if anything, school nurses are doing in their buildings to help deal with adolescent obesity. Any programs, exercises, etc. Whatever is being done would be a big help to me!

Thanks to all!

Re: Help For A School Nurse!

Hi, I am a school nurse in Florida. We do BMI checks annually of targeted grades...typically only K-5. I also have become part of a new grant (because my schools use this service) that is part of the Ronald McDonald Mobile Care Van. They BMI all students seen on the van...and the next monthly visit entails a very lengthy ad detailed visit one on one with a nutritionist. The nutritionist talks to them about diet and lifestyle changes that need to be made to reach normal BMI standards, and will do an on site blood glucose and cholesterol screening via fingerstick. These students are all 6-12 graders who have high BMI's.

Hope that Helps

Erica
