Smile Surgical Prep..help!!

I an OR manager, fairly new to this. (not OR, but management) I have a new nurse in the OR, no OR experience, mainly floor nursing that wanted a change. Well this is my question.
I am having a hard time teaching her how to prep the pt's surgical site. She is insisting on starting at one point and then treking across the incision site. I have taught her time and time again to start at the incision site and make a circular motion leading outward, never coming back to the incision site with the same sponge. Does anyone know of some printed material(with pictures)that i could print for her to show her what I mean? I would appreciate any help that anyone may have for me. I am so frustrated with this. Thanks!!

Re: Surgical Prep..help!!

Here is a link to an Educational video on Surgical site prep by 3M. Go to the bottom of the page, and, under "3M Duraprep Surgical Solution" Click on "Duraprep training video", then click on either "Dial-up" or "high speed", depending on your internet connection. Hope that helps!

Re: Surgical Prep..help!!

I guess it would depend on your site but one of my co-workers did an inservice on site preps for c-sections and PPTs because there are a few other co-workers who just can't get it quite right....she took a dry erase board and drew a body on it with a perm marker (pretty big board) Then did a prep demo and also let people do a return demo....I've also let myself be scrubbed by new staff then the person teaching doesn't have to be sterile and they can say stop there and do it this way and demo the correct way.
