I am fairly new to the OR...since September. I thought my feet and back were just sore because I wasn't used to standing all day. Its not getting any better. Does anyone have any suggestions on a great pair of shoes?

I work LTC, and wear Reeboks due to sore feet. Of course, OR rules/rregs may be different. Have you considered inserts or support hose?

PS......I should also mention: I wear a 4 1/2 shoe.

I strongly recommend (sp) Saucony's. Theyre wonderful shoes...and because they don't really advertise the prices are kept down pretty decent on them. I get my all white ones for about $60....but they feel equivilent to a New Balance that would cost over $100. They're the first shoe I've ever walked into a store..tried one on...and bought them. I've been buying the same shoe now for 3 years.

Another thing....I was told by a podiatrist when I worked in a retail shoe store..to keep your feet from getting sore...have 2 pairs of good shoes..and rotate them. When you wear the same shoe every day it starts wearing on your feet. So...even though I love my shoes...I'll wear them for 2-3 days..then wear a different shoe for a day to give my feet a break. Also..replace your shoes every 6-9 months when the insoles start wearing thin.

I keep my "old" work shoes to wear around the house and stuff since they usually still look almost new...but keep new good shoes for work to limit foot and back pain.

I loved ROCKERS!! Bought mine n uniform store. Feels like you/re walking on clouds. The "rocker" shaped sole, keeps pressure off. FEEL GREAT!!!

Some excercises to strengthen your back might be of help. Go to employee health or to the PT dept. in your hospital - I'm sure they can give you some strengthening exercises. Being a nurse, you've GOT to take care of your feet and back!!

Glad to hear that I am not the only one who initially suffered with sore feet when I started in the OR. I found, and this may sound corny, but the crocs that everyone is wearing because they think that they are cool are actually really great for your feet. I had a foot surgeon recommend them to us in the OR. I actually went to Payless and bought the airwalk version because they don't have any holes in them. You never know what may come over the table and into your shoes!! Besides, they are cheaper than the crocs. All the other suggestions were great, so my advice is to try several of them and see which one works for you.:luck:

No shoes can make your feet feel good after eight hours...if you can accept that fact we can move onto recommendations
When I did a travel assignment in Boston I headed to Maine and hit the factory outlets. I purchased a pair of North Face trail shoes for under 50 bucks (regularly over 100) and they were the most comfortable OR shoes I've ever worn.
I recently purchased some Crocs...I now have a sore spot near the ball of my foot (actually the toe besides the big one) and now no matter what shoe I wear it hurts at times.
I love New Balance and Adidas. Of course, I have gunboat feet. I really love my current exercise/work shoe...the Adidas Supernova Cushion.
We also have a foot massager at our front desk that our administrator won at Congress...it knocks the soreness out for about fifteen minutes. :luck:

Nurse mates are great! I actually have a pair of dansko and I hardly ever wear them because I love my nurse mates.

I suggest going to a specialty shoe store, and having a salesperson help you try on various pairs of shoes. Explain the problems you have and the nature of your work.

With reference to one of the other posts, I have always worn crocs at work. I work in a hospital and if you're looking for a comfortable pair try these ones out. I've had them for ages and they have always been really good.
