Man..I thought I had a grasp on just how low our standards in the operating room were going...but My Director said the sticky note on the front of the chart was the Dr's orders!!! I looked at her quite incredulously and could literally hear the synapses in my brain popping!!!! I had just had the day before a patient for ureteral stent placement show up in holding with NO FREAKIN' CONSENT SIGNED FOR IT..and she had already gotten narcs on board..so 'the front desk' says...'just fill one out for her for the consent and have her sign it...(damn..why didn't I think of that?)...but she's got narcs on board!!! Well..just add it to the other consent for her main surgery and have her initial it they said...BUT SHE'S BEEN 'NARC'D'... I repeated..they asked me did I want to cancel the surgery...like NO...but get a family member or the MD..to take responsibility....my front desk nurse signed it....GEESHHH..Why do we even have charts anyway..no one looks at them..and when they do..nothing in there seems to mean a damn thing...BUT I WILL ALWAYS STAND MY GROUND...PERIOD...I am not blind nor deaf nor stupid,,,and refuse to pretend that I am...just because it's easier to go with the flow..I am an unpopular figure in my OR..BECAUSE I AM DIFFERENT...and that MAKES a difference...when are some of us going to stop letting the system beat us into the ground like this...we are all victims of the same monster...and the surgeons are in the same boat with US whether they want to admit it or not...
