Nursing 25Years Ago

One of my first nursing jobs was in geriatrics as an LPN. I got to mop up urine, fight with the administrator for wound care supplies, fight with the RN about the Kwell oreder she wrote, cry when they actually followed her order as the pt. went septic, But, I actually felt needed back then. Any one else want to talk about the beginning of their nursing career?

Re: Nursing 25Years Ago

I still mop in L&D after 3pm the housekeeping staff doesn't come to L&D so the nurses and techs do it along with changing the beds and washing the toilet. What about when everyone came in the day before surgery just for labs then you took care of lots of patients.

Re: Nursing 25Years Ago

My very first nursing job was on a unit by my self fresh out of school, no other nurse no aides just me on the night shift. I gave the insulins and meds in the am, got 7 people up for breakfast, answered call lights etc. all for $0.50 more than minimum wage. I think there was about 25 pts. on the unit.
