    Crossing the Line

I am in nursing school and one of my teachers are asking that we gather input from other nurses regarding crossing professional boundaries. We will be discussing our findings in class. What are some signs that a professional relationship is becoming unprofessional and if you feel that becoming personally involved with a client is wrong. Opinions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I don't know about client/nurse relationships, but working in a teaching hospital, you will hear nurses say that they chose this type setting to meet a new doc, get married and not have to work anymore......I've seen both the nurse's and doctor's reputation and even careers reuined by this thinking.

    Re: Crossing the Line

we had a RT get fired because he called a patient at home he'd gotten the phone number from his chart when he was in the hospital and he wanted a relationship with the (male) patient. I work in a community hospital so lots of staff know lots of patients/families so it comes close to HIPPA violations (or does violate) when everyone knows everyone else.

    Re: Crossing the Line

I have had the (mis)fortune of working with an aide who would 'adopt' a resident, and literally married him! :whatever:

I would say: if the staff member becomes overly 'concerned and involved with the resident/patient, ofers advice, etc., THEN that is crossing the line.
