    Unhappy Traveling alone

I wanted some advice or stories about how people do travel nursing. I am in the middle of my first assignment and i like it other than i am so lonely. it takes time to meet people and i have no one to go out to eat with or do different things. i am very independent but i'm 26 and if i show up at a wine tasting event alone i'm definitley going to feel uncomfortable. does everyone thats not a husband wife couple travel alone? how do you deal with having to do everything alone. i love snowboarding but i dont want to spend all winter snowboarding alone...even now and then is ok but i just dont know what to do. at this point if i dont get some better ideas i'm returning home when my contract is up. HELP! this is such a great oppertunity and i feel like i'm wasting it away.

    Re: Traveling alone

I travel alone...well...except for my cat! It can be kind of lonely at new assignments and sometimes it takes a little while to get used to the people. I do consider myself a little lucky because I'm an OR nurse, and they are usually a pretty close knit group of people that will get together for dinner, etc. I would recommend going to facilities that use alot of travelers, because that can always give you some socialization or try this forum or Delphi Forums traveling nurse section. Usually you can try to find other travelers who are also looking for some human contact and are in your area. I wouldn't give up yet though, one assignment is not an indicator of the type of friendships you can make while doing this. I still keep in touch with staff members that I've met and truly consider friends.

I am also traveling alone. I have been at my current assignment since March, but it ends in Nov. At first it was hard to make friends, but by the end of my first contract I was treated like staff. 3 of my co-workers and I even went on vacation together and plan on having an annual girls trip. Just give it time. Good luck

I understand. I am married but I wonder what kind of relationships I can make on assignment? It is very scary to think of leaving a hospital and having no one. Do you feel the same way or am I crazy? While I am not completely alone I have no one to fall on in the hospital setting. What if I don't have the answers, ect. I am trying to descide what to do. Is traveling for me or not? How do you make a decision that you completely feel comfortable with?

I Am Travelling Alone Also. I Am In Denver. Believe Me No Matter Where You Are Its Just Not The Same As Home. I Have Been Places Where My Coworkers Weren't Anything Like Me, But Just Percivere The Money Should Be Good And Get Into A Tv Show Or 2 Of Them There Are Some Pretty Good Ones Now. I Am Learning To Ski And Have To Go By Myself Most Of The Time So That Stinks But Oh Well. Good Luck And I Am Sorry You Are Lonely, I Feel That Way Too Sometimes. Hang In There. Ac

    Galax,

I'm currently reading a book that has some helpful hints on traveling alone:

A Journey of One's Own, by Thalia Zepatos

I met my neighbors when walking my dog. I found a friend taking a beading class. I keep in touch with old friends via email and ask for lots of pics of them and their kids or pets.
