How to go about nursing school

Ok, my name is Andrea and I am currently a high school Junior. Right now, I'm looking at college in order to become an RN. But really, I have no idea where to start. I want to get a BSN, but I've read on some college websites that you have to do the prerequisites and then apply for the nursing school.

If anyone could please tell me how they went about becoming a nurse and where they went, the steps they had to take, and whever else, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

andrea, what i did was go to the local jr. college or 2 year college and seen a counselor. he guided me to an adn degree and i had not yet graduated high school. everyone will have to do pre reqs. the counselor will write you out a map and you foolow it. i owed no money by going to a 2 year school at the time of graduation and some nurses i worked with from 4 year colleges owed big big bucks. we all felt equal in knoeledge and skill and earn the same amount. go figure.

There are lots of options, diploma programs, ADNs, BSNs, LPNs/RNs. Depends on your timetable and career goals.

Look into programs closest to your home. Then look at the requirements. Most do require prerequisits such as English, etc. I recommend a 2 yr program to start out with. I was a CNA, LVN, ADN, BS. Jr. Colleges are a lot more affordable than most Universities. Isn't much pay difference between a 2 yr. grad and a 4 yr. grad. 4 yr. grads do have more preference over 2 yr. grads when it comes to Administrative, Teaching, and Management positions.

Hi, Andrea, your best bet would be to start from a 2yr college. That's what I did. Infact, I was actually at a 4yr college, struggling, ..I mean really struggling to pass. This is a school i insisted on going to instead of starting at the 2yr college as advised. However, I had to transfer to a 2yr college because i was afraid of failing out of the school and it would be difficult for other nursing schools to accept me on seeing my transcript. I graduated with highest honors. Working right now and doing my BSN with ease little by little on-line.Looking back now, I smile to myself..
    Good luck in your pursuit!
