    bogus shifts from Favorite Nurses

Last night I thought I was scheduled to work nights at an area long term care facility. I was told by the director of the branch here in CT that I was booked at a certain place for 11-7. At approximately 10PM I called the facility to get directions, only to find out that I was never booked there for that shift, nor had that shift ever been sent out to a staffing agency. It was staffed by two regular staffers. At about 10:10PM I got a call from Favorite Nurses to say there had been a "change in my schedule". As if! There was no schedule; only a lie told to me in order to have me available in case something came up so the work wouldn't go to another agency. I called the office this AM and was told I was given that shift because it was a facility they "expected to hear from". What a joke. I told them they can quit calling me until they have some real work and that in the future I will call ahead to the facilities and make sure any shifts scheduled actually exist at all. I'm disgusted. I worked for them for years and never had any problems and now this.

Wow... I feel for you 'cause that's a rotten way to treat you! Are there any other agencies where you're at?

Re: bogus shifts from Favorite Nurses

that is certainly no way to operate.

You should be paid for four hours of your time or whatever amount they pay when a nurse shows up at a shift only to be cancelled.

    Your time is VALUABLE.

DO NOT let them BULLY you around!

Please let us know the results of your efforts and PLEASE contact me at
aaron at ultimatenurse dot com with their response.

I will do my best to assist you with this as there is NO WAY a company should treat you like this.

Maxim in tampa, fl did that to me. i was told there was a contract at a hospital for me making a good wage. i get to the hospital and find out they don't even know who i am. maxim continued to call me after i made it clear to them to leave me alone, and try to "book me" for shifts.
now i finished a travel assignment with intelistaf only to find that they kept my last paycheck and travel pay. i'm in ca and the corp is in tx. my question is who do i contact to get this money?

    Dear Maggiedanurse,
The manager of another agency I work for told me about this industry practice of pretending to have work for a nurse, "booking" that nurse, and then, at the last minute, calls to say the shift was "cancelled". The purpose is to have someone they know is available to work in case something comes in so that the work doesn't go to some other agency. I expressed my extreme displeasure to Favorite and gave them another chance but I am actually sitting here right this minute trying to decide whether or not to call out for my last two shifts I have booked with them, one for tonight and one for tomorrow night. I was supposedly scheduled to work at an area hospital last night, although the hospital booked my time, I arrived there at 11PM last night, couldn't find my name on the schedules of either of the med/surg floors and then called the supervisor, who told me I had been cancelled at 9PM. I never got that message. What strikes me as extremely odd is that on both the med/surg floor schedules it was obvious they were fully staffed with their own staff and I suspect they gave me the time in order to pad their schedule in case of a sick call. As far as Intellistaff holding onto your pay, I'm sure they can't legally do that no matter what the circumstances. I just had an issue with Preferred over not getting paid on time, not being able to get my time slips signed, etc. I just got a notice from them that they want $236.00 back from me for unearned housing allowance. They still have not paid me for one shift I worked, so we'll see. I called the state board of labor here in CT about problems I had with the facility wanting work done at home without having to reimburse me for my time, refusals to sign for my time until the supposedly only person in the facility who could "verify" my hours was available, withholding of my pay until the facility held up their end of the bargain with signatures and all the rest. I was told by the labor board here that I was free to file a complaint directly to them about this and they would look into it even though Preferred is based in Florida. Preferred was of absolutely no help in any of this. The first time it happened some woman, supposedly a clinical liason, called and told me the whole thing had been straigntened out, etc, that the person who signs for the time would be sure and have it in on time. Well, OK, except the very next pay period the same thing happened; no one signed for my time in time for the time sheet to get to Preferred on time. I got an email notification that my time was late being submitted and when I called and explained that I had, as instructed, left it for the woman who signs the time sheets, they simply said it was up to me to get the signatures, something I had already tried to do, and they just left me hanging. I eventually got paid but it took quite a bit of grief and time on my part. In fact, during the entire day that I spent trying to chase someone down about this, I never managed to get a single, live person from Preferred on the phone until I called their corporate offices. That might be an option for you. Get their corporate office number and see what anyone there has to say. Make sure you write down the complete names and titles of anyone you speak to as well as what they tell you. There is probably also a hospital person who works with your travel company. That person might be able to tell you something. Personally, after this horrendous experience with Preferred, I am finished with travel nursing. I keep reading these horrible posts online here and elsewhere and have to wonder what kind of an industry it is. I did do one assignment with CrossCountry and never encountered any problems with them and if I did, I got help right away. I only took the job with Preferred as CrossCountry didn't have anything in my area when I needed another contract. Fortunately I have found a job I really want which is doing chemo in an outpatient infusion office and so am done with travel nursing altogether. I would try the boards of labor in both the state where you worked as well as Texas and ask Intellistaff to send you, in writing, their explanation for withholding your pay. I hope you have copies of your signed time slips as well. Good luck.

Angry Re: bogus shifts from Favorite Nurses

Hi. I'm new to this, so please bear with me. I've worked for Favorite Nurses for 2 1/2 years. No problems with them until I went on Workers Comp. for an injury the happened at work. I tore the extensor tendon in my finger. 2 surgeries later and after 8 months I was able to return to work. My MD placed me on light dute 2 weeks after surgery after both surgeries and there was none to be found, even for Favorite nurses. That meant a large cut in pay. I was cleared in August and a majority of my shifts were "cancelled". I later found out that I wasn't cancelled, I was offered shifts at hospitals that never were there and was called and told that the shift was cancelled. Approx. 1/2 of my shifts were cancelled or when confirmed, they were at totally different hospitals. This week was the last straw. After I was cancelled, I called the nursing supervisor and the charge nurse at the hospital and they confirmed that I was never on their schedule for that day and they were short for the 7p-7a shift. Needless to say, my shift for the next day never happened. The local office in OakBrook Il. called to confirm that I wasn't on for that night, verified my hours for 2 days later, yet proceeded to offer me another shift for the same shift 2 days later. What to do?!

Follow up - I finally stopped leaving messages for the branck manager, and sent an e-mail giving dates, specific shifts, etc. I was sent an immediate reply, an apology and specific reasons for what has happened and asked if I would be willing to give them a second chance. It is obvious that messages were never given to the branch manager, and I say that only because in the past all messages were returned the same day. The problem/s no longer exist and/or are being repaired. Apology is accepted and starting fresh is a good thing. Thanks for the honesty, that is a rare find these days. So, let this be a lesson to all of us, keep asking questions until all is resolved. There are things that can be fixed. Thanks D.M.

Re: bogus shifts from Favorite Nurses

Well, funny I should read this discussion today. I am also new to the forum, and would like to share in the irritation with Favorite Nurses. Annie, I am having the same problem with them now which is why I don't work with them very often anymore. For me, the girl in the office has taken it as a personal "dig" that I would even work with another agency. I recently traveled to the west coast with Access Nurses, and I absolutely LOVE them. They are so far the best. So when I came home to Chicago, I asked Access to find me an assignment. They were having trouble so I went back to Favorite and asked them to look too. They found me something for 3 months (hooray) and all was well. But then when my Favorite contract ended, Access found me a contract (that I am still working) when Favorite couldn't. No big deal, right? WRONG! The employees at Favorite had the nerve to treat me as if I "cheated" on them! They are nasty to me and hang up on me. I have several saved emails from a specific employee there. They have also given me "ghost shifts" and even went so far as to change my shift (from 3-11 to 5-1) but never called me. My availability was 3-11! I guess the irritating part is when they make me look bad in the hospitals eyes.

So for anyone looking to sign up with Favorite in Oakbrook, IL beware. As for the other locations, I'm not sure, but please let me know so that when I travel again I can make a decision whether or not to go to them for extra work.

Hi. The fun just never ends. Thanks for the info. about Access. Looking into it. Has anyone ever thought to write the CEO of Fav. Nurses? Does he/she know what is happening in offices outside of the Kansas area? Good luck, at least there are still good places to work.
