Are you new to the ICU or is it both? It may take a bit more time for you to get used to everything especially the culture. To answer your question, the usual nurse to patient ratio in ICU is 1:2 so that is something you will have to accept. I recommend that you speak to your manager right away because you sound too stressed out. Are you working with a preceptor now? If not, you probably should be. If things don't get easier for you to manage in a few months, critical care may not be the place for you.
