Right to die: no challenge to court ruling

More of a follow up: Right to die: No challenge to court ruling - Yahoo!7 News

The lawyer representing quadriplegic man Christian Rossiter says he is glad the Right to Life Association will not challenge a decision allowing his client to refuse food at his Perth nursing home.

On Friday Supreme Court Chief Justice Wayne Martin ruled Mr Rossiter could refuse food from his carers at Brightwater in Marangaroo, effectively allowing the 49-year-old to starve to death.

WA Right to Life Association president Peter O'Meara says the association considered fighting the decision, but has decided against it.

"Our main concern really is that Mr Rossiter be afforded proper love and care and the provision of good medical and nursing care in his situation," he said.

Mr Rossiter's lawyer, John Hammond, says it is a good outcome.

"I am relieved that Right to Life won't be contesting the decision," he said.
"They played a very small role and I think there was no need for them to be involved in the first place.

"I don't really understand upon what basis Right to Life think they could appeal the decision.

"The declarations made by the Chief Justice were agreed to by Mr Rossiter's lawyers and certainly not opposed by Brightwater homes."

I certainly hope they do not take away our right to die.

After we are dead, do we truthfully truly care anymore.

Interesting case with a really good outcome. The man made his wishes known and they were honored. I wonder how Mr. Rossiter would have faired here in the U.S.
