Anybody know if it is possible to end a contract early.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had the experience of ending a contract before the contract is due to end. I have been in the contract for about 2 weeks, I found out that I as a traveler am not allowed to ask for specific days off, only if it is in my contract. I thought if i asked 2 months in advance it wouldn't be a problem. I'm considering ending my contract but it is only my 2nd travel assignment and I don't want to hurt my employment record or my chances to travel again. Does anybody have information on this. It would be appreciated. Thanks.

they need you. if they are not willing to give you what you want you get another assignment. this way that will teach them that when you have something in demand you don't loose it. they need you!!!! you don't need that.

Absolutely!!!!! and your company/recruiter should support you. however, similar situation of mine...i had asked upon extension, could i have mondays off for car situation/husband job thing and they said yes. however, they didnt look at the contract (which this was only a verbal agreement b/w me and the manager) and i had off xmas in my contract. they were upset, scheduled me every monday thereafter and i said no way, we agreed...my recruiter couldnt support me "because it wasnt in my contract" and i broke the contract. she said that it didnt hurt things with me and my company at the time, and i'm working with them now. they can place you someplace else or even on a different unit in that hospital. have you talked to your recruiter or the staffing dept there?

The only "good" way to end a contract early is if something disasterous happens (such as a family member becoming gravely ill) and to end the contract is mutually agreed upon.

Yes, the hospital does need you, but you also have a contracted obligation to that hospital. See what you can work out with the hospital between now and then, you might be suprised.

If you do end your contract early, be prepared to find another travel company. Just one of those lessons learned the hard way.... ALWAYS put days off requested in the contract, or don't expect them off.

****o, Before you cancel your contract make sure you read the fine print. Some contracts have clauses titled "at will" which means either party can end the contract for what ever reason. Make sure you look to see if you will have to pay any money back to the company. If the work condition are not good and put your license at risk, you can terminate not problem. Remember they need you, and a hospital that values a nurse or travel nurse should not have a problem giving you a day or two off, yes we are their to help but we are not slaves. Stick it out if you can but don't resign and spread the word!

I found out it's hard to get any time off, so now beofre each assignment I build into the contract a week off in the middle or any special days off up front. Sometimes you can consider adding the week on to the end of the contract as a bargaining chip. As far as breaking, sure you can build a clause in your contract that you will give a significant notice of termination, that if things don't work out for what ever no fault.
