| A startup nurses union based in California is going after new recruits in Central Texas. The California Nurses Association's new union -- the National Nurses Organizing Committee -- recently conquered Chicago. http://c.moreover.com/click/here.pl?r392874206

| Junior Member | Re: Nurse News - Nursing union targets Texas This article is very depressing for Texas. I agree that Texas nurses are uneducated about unions. I believe that is exactly what the Texas Nursing Association and hospital owners in Texas want. I have seen many nurses who have spoken about unions suddenly find themselves without jobs, and unable to find one. Texas needs change. We need a united voice to stop mandatory overtime, stop staffing cuts, stop management from deliberately preventing their nurses from getting raises by down-scoring evaluations. We need help! |

| Re: Nurse News - Nursing union targets Texas hi, I have personally spoke with reps from the California Nurses Union. After that telephone conversation one thing was clear; Texas nurses have different needs than they do. What we need in addition to mandated pt/nurse ratios, a greater say in the bedside nursing process, increased pay, greater respect from hospital administrators to stand behind nurses when challenging physicians, is new legislation. We need legislation to protect our licenses. It's so easy for nurses to lose their livelyhood from a mistake made under terrible working conditions forced upon us by hospitals. We have to stand up for ourselves and say enough is enough! We need the bargainly power a collective effort provides. We have always been self defeating. Nurses can callaborate with the rest of the ancillary staff, we just can't seem to callaborate with each other. Please look at my post for a Texas Nurses Union for more ideas on the subject. |
