IPN Intervention and Work

Can someone give advise on looking for work outside the nursing profession while in an intervention program.

Does IPN (Florida) or other intervention programs notify your employer and track your progress in a non nursing position.

If you tell an employer (ie substitute teaching job, or gov job as a mail carrier) that you have a nursing license as a criteria only of your education, and the position does not require that licence as part of its job description, are you working under your license?

Afraid that if the intervention program isnt mentioned when applying for the non-nursing job that it might be a reason for termination if they are notified later.

hi jewels, you dont have to mention anything about ipn in a non nursing position. Just say your taking a break from nursing. ipn does not notify your employer. what you'll have to do is write a short description to ipn re: present work status and recovery. ( the form is in the ipn packet) That is done quarterly. Once you return to nursing your employer will be required to fill out the work eval. form quarterly. Otherwise you can work where ever you want as long as it does not require your nursing license. The only problem you may encounter might be attending the weekly support group and your work schedule. I was honest with my employer and stated I had made some poor choices and could not practice nursing for awhile and therefore had to attend mandatory meeting every tues morning. They are very understanding. I have an interview tomorrow at a LTC facility. Hopefully they will be equally understanding. Take care

Thank you Jean for the information. Applications have been sent out to Non-Nursing positions and hopeful that there will be some response. Just so hard when all experience is in nursing for so many years. As an update: IPN forced eval through their person. Even though eval was supposed to be accepted by a non-IPN list person if criteria was met, the suggestion for treatment from that provider was denied fir being too limited. So first lesson, learned. Dont buck the system, six weeks waisted, we paid the fees and are now on track. 6 weeks of IOP, 9 visits a week. What happens after the IOP?

hi jewels, usually after IOP there are several weeks of whats called after care. But in your husbands case they may not require after care since he is attending 9 session weekly Iv'e never heard of ipn requiring so many outpatient sessions per week.The weekly visits are decreased. When after care is complete thats when the weekly nurse support group and the color calling starts. As long as he progresses in IOP he should be cleared by IPN to retrun to work with restrictions. Some nurses are not allowed pt care for 3-6 months. Usually depends on what the addictionologist recommends. Might have something to do with dual diagnosis i.e. depression/addiction. Hang in there.

Think i might have messed up on the 9 visits. It's 9 hours per week in IOP. Not sure how many visits. Such a waiting game. One day at a time. Thanks again Jean for the into.
