I find this so hard to believe. I live in a large city (Chicago) and we have so many nursing jobs available it's not funny. The nursing shortage is felt here. I've worked at places where there was 6 floors (only 5 were used for patients) and instead of having 9 nurses to cover the 50 residents on each floor, there may have been 3 nurses in the building. The hospitals are hiring LPNs (I am one) to work in NICU. I know because I was offered this position immediately after graduation. The jobs are out there. Where in the world are these new nurses looking?

The original post is a bit old, but Ill answer. Many places want you to have experience. W/o experience.....no luck!

Did you say you're an LPN?

Re: Most graduating nurses 'have no job'

The online article [originally 2006] is United Kingdom based and refers to London, and assoctaed areas; "The vast majority of student nurses graduating this summer have no job to go to, according to a survey reported by the BBC."

I have no idea what the job market is like across the ocean. IMHO, Nursebot should have been more clear regards to the article's source.

Here in middle Tennessee, 100% of nurses in all area schools are hired upon graduation according to the statistics, and post-grad reports.

I would definitely rely more on TN, than UK statistics regards to the nursing shortage, and the hiring of GN's.

Note NurseBot has been disabled for a while!

I guess the whole story had to do with the poor job outlook in the UK at the time.

Re: Most graduating nurses 'have no job'

If you would like, I will research into various state websites and NLNAC pages, in an effort to consolidate this information into a forum post. I have the day off and do not feel very productive for the day.
