Thumbs up Autism Awareness "Joys and Sorrows of Living with Adult Autism"

    Attention All Nurse
I have written a book "Joys and Sorrows of Living with Adult Autism" which I posted a topic about yesterday. I would like to tell about an incident where my husband was misunderstood. He was checking on getting Language Therapy at a hospital he previously had surgery at and he asked them if he could have a female therapist. They had female therapists but they also had one man therapist. This made Brian uncomfortable because he had a bad experiences during his childhood where he was tortured and made fun of with needles by men, so he doesn't want male nurses or therapists. I left a note for their Speech Pathologists asking if Brian could meet with them to help him decide who he would be comfortable with. The next day the Director of their department, a man called and chewed Brian out about the note. Then, Brian got all wound up and wrote all his therapists trying to defend himself. He talked about his childhood all the way to the present trying to explain why he wanted a female therapists. The director called back and asked him not to write his therapists again. He acted like he had it in for Brian and since this man reminded him of a mean man in his past who tried to turn all his teachers against him he was afraid this man would try to turn his nurses against him, especially his favorite IV helper, who was the first to get him through an IV stick successfully. Writing is Autistic individuals way of communicating. They are unable to get out of their mouth what they are wanting to say but they can write it! Brian got hysterical and wrote this IV helper a letter asking her not to say things that some college girls had said to him years earlier but did not think to explain this is where he got his statements from. Because of his Autism he is not able to seperate his past from the present...it either is or isn't! He was ridiculed in college by girls that had the wrong idea about him and he feared his favorite IV helper would get the wrong idea about him because of this Director of Speech Pathology, a man and put their words in her mouth. She apparently got the wrong idea and called the police. We found out later that Brian's doctor thought he was stalking her but he was really just trying to beg for mercy. So, if you run into anybody that does what he did, find out if their Autistic first.s:

    Will somebody please respond?

My sweet dear autistic husband Brian is driving me nuts! He checks our posts all the time and for some reason nobody ever responds. Can someone please give me some feedback? My book is available in my 3 neighboring libraries so you can do an interlibrary loan if you like. You can also go to my website and sign my guestbook! www.freewebs.com/bigberthaevans/yahoo.com :frustrated:
