April 12, 2005: Male nurse who allegedly fondled male patients to stand trial:"A male nurse accused of fondling three male patients at different hospitals while they were medically incapacitated must stand trial on six felony counts of sexual battery, a judge ruled Tuesday. Julius Villareal, 32, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted, said Deputy Attorney General David Songco. Department of Justice Special Agent Kevin Coughlin testified during a preliminary hearing that a man told him that Villareal gave him an unrequested sponge bath last June 8 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital."

We had a male resp therapist several years ago who got a male pts home phone number from his chart and was calling him at home...he's no longer working there got fired.

Ohhhh boy! Ya, We had a male nurse did the same thing about 8 years ago in our ICU. What cover up. The man left our hospital and went to work at an other. 4 or 5 years ago some one asked me if I remembered him, he was working in a produce section of a supermarket. So, I do not know what he did to be out of Nursing and I do not want to know.

With the position and opportunity comes temptation. I only post a few stories here and there of nurses that get themselves into trouble. If you read your bulletins from the state board (the ones I get from NJ and PA) list full pages of nurses who have lost their licenses for drug diversion, unprofessionals acts and more.

Nurses it would seem are very human, just like everyone else.

Horrid behavior but I'm wondering about the significance of the fact that this was a male nurse. Not sure anyone remembers but last year, I believe it was in Tennessee, a woman opened fire in a courtroom where her husband was being arraigned, killing a judge and the officer escorting her husband. The woman is a registered nurse who worked at the prison where he was being held. She had not been a nurse very long but had gotten the assignment through a temporary agency and then, apparently, found the man of her dreams. This happened around the same time as "The Runaway Bride", also a nurse as noted in the paper. Lots of true horror stories out there.

I would hope the penalty would be stiffer than 9 years.
