    Re: not new to nursing

    Hello Gin,

Been a nurse for 10 years, every day is a new one. How the day goes is largely up to me and how I respond to what is waiting for me at work.

I want to walk out each day, knowing that I helped a few people get through a difficult time a little easier. Try to get through the day with a minimum of drama. Can do that on most days.

Focus on the bright spots, and leave the rest behind. Life is too short to get hung up on the little stuff.

Yes! I decided a long time ago to do my best in the 8 or 12 hours I had. I go home knowing this each day. I now approach my patients and do not just introduce myself as their nurse. I now state to them "I am here to take care of you..'their response is different.

Hi, gin! Nice to meet you.

You are so correct.....we are all given so many hours a day, and how we use them is important. We should all do the best we can.

Absolutely, I do a quick rounds right after I get report, introduce myself and tell them I'm "responsible" for them till 11pm or whatever. They seem a lot more at ease knowing who they can call.

Takes a little time in a situation where there is never enough. I think it actually cuts down on the number of "nuisance" calls I get through the night. I find out right there, early on, about pain issues, concerns, etc that I can address when I have time through the shift.

I'm glad to hear another nurse is willing to take the time as well, it does put the patients at ease.
