May 18 2005: Tennessee: Local high school students to learn nursing at camp:"Local high school students with dreams of a career in nursing can move one step closer by participating in Nurse Camp 2005 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. For the second year in a row, the hospital will offer up to 25 students the opportunity to try out a career in nursing for a week before they commit to a nursing program in college."

we don't have nurse camp but in the highschool in the town I work they have a health careers class where they choose a few options of health career fields then rotate through those areas then for the end of the semester they get it narrowed down to one area then everyday from 8-10:30 they are in the one area. We've had a couple of pretty sharp gals come through OB. They've gotten in on vag deliveries and sections as well as the daily running of L&D.

In New Mexico you can go through the LPN program while you are still in high school. When you graduate high school you are a GPN and just have to take the test. I have run into some maturity issues with these kids, especially if they go right into working as a charge nurse in LTC otherwise I think they do well for the most part.
