Hurricane Relieft: What Nurses Can Do

I just received an email from a travel company asking for help to send nurses on assignments to help with the hurricane relief efforts...

Although I am not able to go myself, I have set aside one of my web pages for hurricane relief posts.

Recruiters: Please send me an email with your hurricane related needs, and I will get the email posted as soon as possible. highwayhypo@yahoo.com

Nurses: Please go by and check out the webpage and see if there is something you can do. The webpage can be viewed here: http://www.highwayhypodermics.com/Hurricane.htm

THANKS to all!!!

I hate to say it, but your post is almost as bad as encouraging scab nurses to rush into an area when they have a strike going on, concerned only with making money off other people's misery.

Quit helping travel nurse agencies "chase ambulances." Save your "offers" for the spam area.

If you were listing places on your site to volunteer our time, this kind of post might be "ok."

Here are places that are getting help to where it is needed, not just who will pay the most to travel agencies. Any agency in the continental US worth it's salt can place you in hospitals desperate for nurses.

Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors Without Borders or MSF):"Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors Without Borders or MSF) delivers emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. MSF was founded in 1971 by a small group of French doctors who believed that all people have the right to medical care regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that the needs of these people supersede respect for national borders. It was the first non-governmental organization to both provide emergency medical assistance and publicly bear witness to the plight of the populations they served."

MEDICO, Inc:"Since its founding in 1990, MEDICO has provided basic services to people in need. Founders Lynda and Norm Peters, Jim Durham, and Marian and David Flowers experienced the joy of serving others and wanted to continue giving to those less fortunate. They created MEDICO, an independent organization not tied to a religious or government organization. Through the efforts of MEDICO, an expectant mother receives prenatal care, a little girl can walk normally after club foot surgery, a child obtains books and paper for classes. Since 1990, volunteers from all over the world have helped make this a reality for the people of Latin America."
