Traveling in a RV

Hi,

I am 48 years old and have been in Nursing for 15 years. My experience is in a CAH in rural Iowa. I started on Med/Surg for 2 years, then went to ER for 10 years and have been in Nursing Management for 3 years. In the last 3 years, I have not been stuck behind a desk. When my nurses need help, I will go out to the different departments and help. ER is my love and I was wondering if I will need to work as an ER Nurse again or will my 10 years of experience be sufficient to travel as an ER Nurse.

My husband and I have purchased a 5th wheel RV to use for traveling. I was wondering if the agencies give housing allowances and mileage if we would use this as our home?

Also, would love to hear from any travelers that are using RV's to live in while on assignments. How do you like this lifestyle? Do you have a home base?

What kind of nursing management where you in? I would think that as long as you kept up your skills, you should be fine, since you've only been in management for 3 years.

I traveled in an RV for 2 years and absolutely loved it. Was very nice to have my own home with me as I scooted all over the country. We pulled our trailer from California to Florida, to New Orleans to Mason City, Iowa, before our little mishap right out side of Des Moines. Since then, we have been "gun shy" and haven't bought a new one. Was very nice that we could spend a month going from one place to anther and camp out along the way. I have a 16 year old at home right now and we used to have a 2 bedroom bumper pull, but if we get another one, we'll wait until he is out of the house then probably go with a Class A or C motorhome.

p.s... You must keep your home base, or you are considered an itenerate worker. As an itenerate worker, legally you can not take out of your taxes for all your travel expenses.

hi cris,

best advice is to get a diesel to pull that 5th wheel and run it on biodiesel if you want to avoid the stink!

also might want to get some solar panels and inverter to provide ac power w/o running your generator (if you have one).
