    college student confussion

    hey guys,
i just joined this forum and have read a few threads and i just would like some of your input on my decision. im currently a sophmore at usc upstate in SC. we have a great nursing program and i am really interested in nursing. i worked for a year as a transporter in a hospitol in my home town. my problem is this: is it worth it? to go through all these classes. and my gpa and all isnt as good as it should be? i would love to be a male nurse, especially in the ER. i love the action and how random the cases can be. im just not sure if im cut out for it.

    Hi Rob,

Because you are a little unsure about whether or not you want to pursue a nursing degree, I recommend that you spend some time working as a CNA. You could continue working on your degree but in the meantime, you would get a closer look at the career you are interested in. Make some friends in the field and pick their brains. Go out with them after work and listen to what they say. Nursing is a tough job. I wish I could say that it was only the education or the hours or the pay but it is so much more than that. There is a HUGE responsibility that doesn't end when your shift is over. Sometimes, when you're new and even when you're not-so-new, difficulties can keep you up at night- or day, whenever you work. You may find that there is nothing else that you would rather do and for that, I would be grateful. Nursing needs more committed professionals and I hope you find thay you are one of them.

    Another guy in the workforce.
