please tell me this gets better

i'm in a CNA course right now. i intend on becoming an RN later. today was our first day of clinicals at a nursing home. i almost cried afterwards. i felt so bad for the residents there. it's a good facility, it's just sad to see them in the shape they're in. i expected it to be hard, but of course, it was nothing like i had expected. i feel like i didn't do that great of a job. i tried my hardest, it's just i was unexperienced and slow. it made me feel so bad, like i wasn't doing a good enough job for the patient. i plan on getting a job at children's hospital after i'm certified, b/c i love kids. i just need some encouraging words, b/c today was so hard. is everyone else like this starting out?

Hey KT, I worked as a CNA, and a CMT (certified medication tech) for 5 years. I am now in Nursing school. The answer is yes, it definately gets better. Nursing has many areas, and if you do not like Geriatrics (elderly care) I sure there is another area that you will enjoy. As far as CNA's, your scope of practice is extremely limited and the pay is down right horrible. Have you ever thought of nursing school?
