    Hi everyone.

I am 56 and considering getting back in to nursing after twenty-eight years out. I have retired from my job. What are the chances of a 56 year old LVN getting back in the state of Texas? Bye everybody.

    Re: Hi everyone.

You may have major difficulties getting back into nursing. Rather than speculate, I'd get a response straight from the horse's mouth.

Texas Board of Nurse Examiners:"The mission of the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas is to protect and promote the welfare of the people of Texas by ensuring that each person holding a license as a nurse in the State of Texas is competent to practice safely. The Board fulfills its mission through the regulation of the practice of nursing and the approval of nursing education programs. This mission, derived from the Nursing Practice Act, supersedes the interest of any individual, the nursing profession, or any special interest group."

You may need to start from scratch. Depends on how much experience you had while you were working, whether you've kept your license current, and their CEU requirements for inactive nurses.

My gut feeling is that you may be required to go back to school, at the very least do a refresher. You can find a list of on/offline refresher courses here:

Let us know how you make out.
