Thread: Travel Nurse Wanna Be

    Smile Travel Nurse Wanna Be

Let me start with saying that I am not the nurse, but my partner is. She was an LVN for around 11 years, but graduated from RN school last year. She has almost one year as an RN and is now interested in travel nursing. I have two questions I hope you can help with.

    1. Agencies...
She has a blemish on her record (misdemeanor for a hot check - long story but it was over 7 years ago) she was recently told by AMN healthcare that they basically didn't want anything to do with her (they have several companies including Nurses RX). She has several other options, but I want to know whom should she go with. I have read about several agencies on here, and we are confused. I don't want to share housing or get messed around. We need help and advice.

    2. MOVING...

What do we take with us??? We know not to take a lot, but obviously we do not want to use the linens they provide.
We are talking about taking electronics, linens, a few cooking tools/pots and some personal effects. Anything that we are missing or don't need to take? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

I have no idea how my travel company would handle the "blemish", but if it is not keeping your partner from getting a nursing license in other states, it should not be a problem.

I am with RN Network and they have seem to handle any problems I have had on assignment very well.

As far as what to take with you....how much space do you have?? I drive a 2000 GMC extended cab with a cap on the back and take it with me everywhere. The back is always filled to capacity and this assignment I even brought along my 6x10 enclosed trailer.

Companies provide a standard furniture package, usually a couch/ chair combo, a few end tables, a few lamps, TV stand, coffee table, dining room table and chairs, bed, mattress, dresser/mirror, and an end table for the bedroom. As far as what to take, think of it like moving into a brand new apartment that is furnished. There are no sheets, no pots and pans, no TV, and no toilet paper. From there, it's all about what you need or want in order to live comfortably.

I always take way too much. As far as electronics, I have my laptop, a desktop computer, a PS2, 360, and a 42 inch plasma. And that speaks nothing of my other toys such as golf clubs, thousands of dollars of camera gear, guns, and a motorcycle. It all depends how well you want to live.

That blemish should not really even come up with talking to the agency, like the previous poster said, if she is allowed an RN license already then it should not be an issue. My travel company is Travel Nurse Solutions and they provide furnishings and housewares which is great because all I have to bring is clothes and personal items, everything else is there including the vacuum! Also all the linens are brand new and packaged. As far as AMN they did your partner a favor! I have heard nothing but bad bad bad about them from travel nurse blogs and reviews, also they have several companies related to them, so if you are trying to stay away from them, just ask any recruiter if their company is affiliated. Call TNS I think you'll be pleased. My recruiter is Shea Parker and she works hard for her travellers. good luck
