to forum moderators and adminastration: please don't ban "controversial" posters. this is america and freedom of speech is great. if one donesn't like a posting then ignore it. i enjoy freedom of speech and hearing a "variety" of ideas. i'm referring to tiredofthesystems posts. many people have disagreed with tiredofthesystem but it is good to hear from ALL points of view. i post this because i noticed his thread was closed.

well whatever one thinks the important thing is freedom of speech. for example you may not like howard stern but if saddam hussien ruled the country he would not be allowed a voice. i would rather hear howard stern for 10 hours than saddam hussien for 30 seconds.

If you allow yourself to be vulnerable and admit that you feel afraid (which is normal in an area as litigious as L&D is), many will kick you while you're down instead of being genuine mentors. I rue the day I ever became a nurse but because my family is now used to the larger income I make, I am trapped. I'm sad because I pride myself on being a nice person but I can't figure out a way to develop the thick skin it's going to take to work with such aggressive people. I've worked in several other nursing positions and never has it been this bad. Is there any way that we, as nurses, can learn to support each other instead of tearing each other down? We could accomplish so much more as a group to better our image of professionalism. I work in Austin, Texas and I think I want to get out of nursing but this will require going back to school -- not an easy feat with a husband and three children. Anyone have any ideas? :cool:

What do I do for a living? Well, If I actually told you then you would prolly know who my GF is, and call me out because our combination is so rare, that anyone who reads this that lives near us would know exactly who the nurse is. ::geeeeeeeeesh::
So I'll just say this. I dont work for anyone, and Im self employed, love the freedom, the money, and love the fact that what I do makes everyone around me better. Im not some grumbling jealous boyfriend sitting with a bottle of paxell in the corner of my room on rainy days. I am actually very heavily into introspection, self actualization, pragmatic thinking, cinnergism, humanism, calling out narcissism,creative visualization, ..etc..etc..blah blah blah.
Point One : ANYONE who thinks that float pool nurses dont get dumped on is FULL of S***,THE JEALOUSY OVER THE DIFFERENCE OF WAGE AND LABOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE and anyone who doesnt think that someone could get a crappy shift on a busier floor because they are very attractive and have huge t***, is NOT LIVING ON THE SAME PLANET. I do not make this crap up, I am telling stories about REAL scenarios. Heck look at the show ER... even though ER is and has always been over the top, its a known fact that ER's success was due to the fact that many of their stories are based upon true scenarios, in REAL environments.( I guess im referring to the flirting, power tripping, sexual employees, etc..) . so Nyah!
Point 2 : It is absolutely NOT wrong to want material things and maybe nursing is a street smart thing to do to be able to GET those things but from my observation of meeting and personally knowing HUNDREDS of nurses in my time, I conducted my own personal survey in loose conversation with them and asked a random reflexive question: WHY DID YOU GO INTO NURSING? Now keep in mind this is RANDOM....wanna know what 90% of them said the first thing off of their tongue? THE MONEY........ now am I saying that even though they do not go into it for the money that some of them are not team players, ethically inclined, and all around good people? No Im not. But am I saying that they tolerate situations which induce a growing and seeping fog of not only a comparison based identity, but also a supressed attitude towards innovation in human ethics, and basic awareness of simple human rights. ( not being able to eat for 6 hours ( violation of state law) ...( which by the way requires a 15 minute break at a MINIMAL in that duration of time.
Point 3 Robocop/Nurse be quiet because Im not even gonna get butchy with anyone.. not worth my time.
Point 4: If someone syntaxically goes into a field for the money as the first priority then THINGS will catch up with them. Its called FIXATION. Or lack of* TRUE NORTH PRINCIPLE...or.. MORAL COMPASS... .....................call it what you will but regardless, I stand on my soap box and say that the 4-5 nurses in this post who have beat their chest about how happy they are do not represent the majority. Hospitals are a broken system, and I think that these 4-5 nurses in this thread are the ones who are numb, blind, and also a smidge bit naive. Color me skeptical.
Point #5: Adrenaline Junky comment :... ok they work hard, think fast , blah blah blah.. ok.. now the point was..THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW to SLOW DOWN, and smell a flower. Riddle me that ..cardio problems will slow them down eventually........

Point #7: Christianity in the nursing environment : <--Probably not much because of all of the disorientation of power and greed in the system. Nurses are the frontline of God's angel squad, and I can guarantee you he is rolling in the clouds wanting to sling a lightning bolt down and hit every NON HUMBLE nurse right in the a**, or perhaps smack their hands in the ruler because they certainly learned ethics in college... OOOOOOOOOOOOPS ..SCREEEEEEEEECH.!. my fault... IT WASNT DONE PROPERLY.
For all of you who tried to have a field day with me, good for you because I have not budged one bit. My feelings are based on hearing thousands of stories of how screwed up the environment is. I do think Robocop made some good points about everyone wanting material things, and I will rethink my own material needs and how much I am willing to sacrifice to get those things, but for all of you jealous, disgruntled pencil pushers, armchair quarterbacks, and a**-kisssers.......I have no sympathy for you. I think your fibbing through your money stained teeth on the lack of humanity and fair treatment amungst employees in nursing is way too obvious, Theres too many patients ( unless your a RN in a elementary school wiping elbows)....and you all take it out on each other when a union could give you all a voice. Again I would bet a big shiney nickle that most of the women supporting the communistic nursing machine are prolly 2-day a week nurses or nurses who have cushy pencil or education positions.

if teresa is crying when she goes home she needs to find another job. if she wants to stick it out then she must emotionally detach herself from her peers behavior that makes her cry. a "clique" is a defense - a way to survive. we're all basically cave men - we all want to survive the best so we can pass on our genes and our offspring will survive well - hence immortallity. every human action is rooted in defense or survival - passing on genes - immortallity. even altruism is a defense or survival of the fittest because altruism wins friends and those who survive the best or can defend themselves the best usually have a lot of friends. if you work with emotionally disturbed children you can see this very clearly - they come from homes of abuse or no rules and they feel threatened so they defend themselves the best they can from an enviroment they see as threatening - they want to survive like everybody else but the enviroment they come from makes it very difficult - so they feel threatened - and they defend themselves - aggression ect.

It took me years to discover that nursing was not for me. I thought it was the type of nursing jobs that I was getting. I graduated with my BSN (BULL **** NURSE) from a very prestigious nursing school.
I have been nursing for 9 years now, and I hated every minute of it. I have worked in clinics, in neuro medicine, in OB, in home health, in nursing homes, in hospitals, in school nursing, and in management. I have hated all of my jobs.
I came to the conclusion that it is not the jobs, it's the career choice. People tell me all the time how lucky I am to be a nurse. They are just looking at the money aspect and not all the crap that goes along with the job. I have not found a job yet that pays me extra because I have a BSN.
They are just happy to know that I have an RN license and I am hired just because I am a nurse not because I have a baccheleors. I have suffered many years of depression because I picked nursing as a career. I discourage students when they ask me about being a nurse. I tell them the truth. No, I do not like being a nurse and I do not recommend anyone to go into this stressful field. I am 30 years old and I am BURNED OUT. I cried when I read some of these articles in this section.
I typed "I hate nursing", and this web site popped up. I can't believe that there are others out there who feel the way I feel. It makes me feel relieved. I thought that I was crazy to hate a job that pays me $38/hr. I bring home $1100 every friday and I hate every minute of working as a nurse. Sometimes it is not about the money.
I am overworked and stressed out and most of all unappreciated. I am seriously thinking about getting my real estate license. These articles have given me some inspiration. I really can walk out of this dreadful career. :confused:
It took a 30 year old 9 years and 8 jobs to figure out they didn't like the profession. That's hardly time to have orientation and even start to get comfortable.
You won't change your positon and I'm not changing mine either. I like what I do. I worked my odd night shift last night and it was a slow night which is strange for a Friday but we had lots of fun and laughed so hard we were about to pee our pants. 2 of the other nurses even called me on the way home laughing at the fun we had...another called me this afternoon as I was on the way to St Louis (right now sitting in a 5 star hotel because I dont' want to go to a ball game but had room service dinner)
Floating and getting pulled can suck that might be reason to go to a hospital or unit that doesn't float/pull and not work a float pool unless you are very confident in youself as a person and your skills.
You can't get sh-- on unless you let others do it. You don't take assignments that are dangerous to your patients or your liscense.
You just run with a different crowd of 100's of nurses because the ones I work with for the most part like their positons. Check out turn over at community hospitals you'll find in general it's not that high.
