Advice on gaining exp prior to travel

    Hello everyone,
New nurse here and new to the forum.

I am a new gradute RN (ADN) and am currently working towards my RN-BSN. I have just started orientation on a med-surg floor and wish to travel after I finish my BSN (appr 2 years).

I am looking for any advice as to what I can do between now and then to make me more marketable in the travel field.

I am wondering if it would make more sense to plan on staying at my facility for a year longer (3 years) if I was offered a position on the tele unit or even ICU unit for a year. Also, what certs, or any other education, would be most helpful?

I am looking forward to traveling but if it would benefit to stay the extra year (3 years) then it's something I would consider doing. Any ideas as to what would benefit me most prior to traveling would be of great help. Thanks to all, I hope to make many new friends here.

An extra year wouldn't hurt. I would start getting my references together inluding copies of evaluations and letters of reference, certifications in your specialty can help.
Also start researching Travel Nursing and all the inside info from experienced Travelers so you can seperate the Fact from Fiction or Semi-Fiction. Check out the book on my website with many links to other helpful websites with really useful info for the Traveler. Read Read Read and ask lots of questions many times to different people and even do your own research like I do because I've received poor advice from experienced Travelers and excellent advice from Non Travelers and vice versa. Get a Laptop to Travel with on the Information Highway, a calculator and paper and pencil to check the numbers on fast talking recruiters offers and learn all the calculations. Register with more than one company.
