Descisions to make about Nursing

I am a 28 year old male trying to make a decision on whether or not to attend nursing school. I have already been accepted to the program(associates degree) but I am concerned about making a decision I will regret. I work for a major company as a Voice over internet protocol(VOIP) senior technician but I am looking for more stability than corporate America has to offer. I originally was interested in PA but most programs have turned into masters programs, which makes time more of a factor. I know I am young but I have been dating an RN for 5yrs and she would like for us to get started on marriage and family soon being that we are both almost 30. I am also interested in Radiologic tech but I feel that Nursing would open many more doors for me not to mention the security of being able to get a job anywhere anytime. I know no one can make my decisions for me but if there are any nurses out there that can give advice it would be greatly appreciated. I am also concerned with the label that I will have as a male nurse, you know with the whole Gaylord Focker/Meet the parents. I also would like to know some different options I may have as nurse as far as er/homecare/hospital settings and so on. Again any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same boat you are. In fact I also coming from the communications area too. I've been in the video production businness for years. Now I'm age 47 and I see that my profession have changed quite a lot and I am having trouble fitting in as it used to be. My son now can do the job I did and the security is...well you know what I mean. My wife is a labor and delivery nurse for more than 15 years, and yes, stability and higher pay have always acompanied her. It is scarry to me, I have never done anything like that, but I feel it will be a great change in my life, and I'm looking forword to work close to people and make a difference. For me right now the most important thing is the security and make some money. And quite frankly, I don't know if I can say that right now, but I which I have become a nurse earlyer like you are doing now. I'm sure I would have a nice nest egg, and if you are thinking about marriage and kids...man be prepared for the ride of your life, and get your wallet ready...the bills will come out so fast you will not even see it...and it only get worst with time. The way the economy looks now and the way jobs are desapearing and computers are doing everything, is refreshing to know you are wanted out there, this is all I can say for now...love your reply

I am 25 years old, I graduated nursing school in May of last year. It was a great experience and I am very glad I went through with it and became a nurse. Once you have the license the possibilities are endless, and many hospitals are very supportive if you want to go back and further your education. About the whole Gaylord Focker thing,I have heard it numerous times and it never really bothered me because I love what I do, and most of the people I hear it from are miserable in their jobs, and that is just a shame.
About getting married, congratulations, but trying to balance nursing school and a marriage and children is no easy task, but many people seem to make it through ok. Just be sure becoming a nurse is what you really want.

I just got my acceptance letter to nursing. I all ready got my BS in biology, so they took all of my prenursing requirement. I go straight into nursing 103/104.

I am over 30 and getting married this month with a kid on the way, so I figured nursing would be the best choice being that the potential is limitless.

My job is paying part of the tuiton for me to go to school. I work now with the mentally challenged. There is a huge demand for RN within the MR population. I figure that I would stay in that field of either Psych RN or MR group home RN. I studied medicine in Germany for one year and dropped out. I decided that I did not want to be a doctor. I couldn't get into med school here in the US, so I went to Germany, being that I all ready spoke the language. Now ten years later, I am going to be an RN. I wish I didn't waste so much time trying to get into Med School. I am excited about becoming an RN. Still kind of feel a bit uncomfortable telling people that I am going to be a nurse. but, I am sure I will get over it.
