    Wink Clueless

Hi. I have been a nurse for about 10 months. I am married and I have a young child. I am interested in travel nursing but I don't know where to start. Also how difficult is it to get involved with home schooling so that my child and husband can travel with me? Is the pay better than full time nursing so that he can be a stay at home dad?

    hi clueless,

While the pay may be better you have to be prepared to sacrifice some things. Imagine a household with no cable, no phone, and limited electricity. This is the same things OUR grandparents had. If home schooling is important to you and your spouse has a portable business this should not be a problem for you. I am not suggesting that you should forgo these items, it just may be financialy feasable to do so. I am not going to pretend to tell you how to raise your kids, I cant even tell you how I am raising mine. However, being prepared to do things differntly does not make you a loser. CHANGE... it is what kills most of us...... be prepared for it.

Many conpanies &/or hospitals require 2-3 years of experience in your specialty- I would at least wait until you have 1 year of experience, but being a new nurse may limit the number of assignments you are eligible for, just an FYI.

I travel with my husband and my 2 year old son, but it's works for us right now. My husband is a stay at home dad, and we usually try to find areas where we can extend. Any hospital I have worked for allowed me to extend for another assignment. In reference to cable, etc. ( we usually are able to catch a promotion with no hook up charges or a small charge. We pay a little extra for a second bedroom. We use cell phones instead of hooking up a phone everytime. Their are some drawbacks for us, like no yard, no gardening, etc. We have gotten rid of 90% of our possesions and bring a 4x8 uhaul. (It felt cleansing like to get rid of everything. (We bring mostly baby stuff) My husband has the opportunity to stay home with our son, and no day care. We would definitely do it again for him to not stay in daycare. A year of experience is definitely helpful just to get the organization, and multi tasking down. ( and remember you only get 2-3 days of orientation on the unit) I hope this helps you.
