Director of Nursing

Are there any DON here? If so, how did you get your first job and what advise would you give.

If you have not been a DON, what would you say from observations.

I haven't been one, but can honestly say, 'You ain't gonna please everyone all the time.' Whether it is the schedule, the assignments..... someone is gonna be cheesed off.

Isn't that the truth and nothing but the truth. And. righfully so.

Moreover, I would not try to please all but be fair and respectful of all.

Re: Director of Nursing

I am hoping to work my way up to Charge Nurse in a few years, and maybe pursue ADON. However, with Vandy being such a large hospital; I will have tons of competition.

Re: Director of Nursing

I was charge in my ER.

Why are you waiting for a few more years to do so, Robert?

Re: Director of Nursing

Because, I work at Vanderbilt and most of the nurses I work with have been there 20 years or more. Therefore, I have tons of competition. I want to spend a couple of years building up my clinical skills, etc before challenging such a role.
