Hi, I was kneeling down last Friday and when I stood back up I had this pain in my left knee. I tried to stretch it out but it hurt. That Sat. there was some pain but nothing that was excruiating. Mon. it was swollen and also just by the kneecap right by the crease when I walked it seemed to be something that I could feel roll around in it and I could see a knot pop up. It does not hurt while I am walking now it is still swollen on the outside, and before the whole kneecap and above was swollen now it is just above the kneecap a little and there is still a little knot on the outside next to the knee. When I went to Dr. Monday that just passed she said I sprained it and that it was inflammed. She told me to stay off of it and prescribed Ibprofin 800mgs and Tylenol with codine and said put a hot compress on it. I for the most part have been trying to stay off of it and keep it eleavated. I did some walking yesterday and today and of course it is still swollen. Should I go back to the Dr. or is there something that I can do that hasn't been done yet. I hope this isn't to confusing. Thanks for your help.
Helen

Does your knee make a small clicking noise sometimes? How about a sharp pain in the back of your knee or dowm the calf? Just wondering because about a year ago, all of a sudden my knee was really tight, and couldn't straighten it completely. When I would count narcotics I couldn't stand back up and straighten it without cupping my knee with my hand, then slowly straighten it up. But anyways, I have a slight tear in my meniscus. Did the Dr ever mention you might have a slight tear in your meniscus. Hope it feels better soon.
Hi,
No my knee does not have a clicking sound and there is no pain until I bend it.
Actually it is more of a slight pain and pressure when I bend my knee. I have been wrapping it for the last couple of days with an ace bandage and have continued to use the Ibprofin twice a day hopefully this will help. I'm not sure how long it takes for a swollen knee to go down so I just have to be patient.

Doctor DID say to stay off it, didn't she? I speak from experience: Arthroscopy and an overnight stay courtesy of my dad's insurance co.![]()
Uh, are you asking nurses to give you medical advice? Sounds like a job for a good evaluation by an orthopedic doc. Get more than one opinion if the first one makes you uncomfortable as some just like to operate while others embrace a more holistic approach. And if you are an RN, I'm sure you don't need to be told the importance of taking care of a weight bearing joint. Not if you want to keep on being active! Good luck with it.
