Last semester I completed my BSN with the UTMB, at Galveston RN-BSN online program. Although, campus visits were a regular occurance, up to four times a semester.

I'm an alumni of TWU. I received an excellent education and came out prepared as any new grad can be . Am glad I chose BSN over ADN. Most of the jobs I've had have paid more because of BSN. One job a BSN was a requirement. BSN dosen't mean a better nurse , just that you may have more options.[]

ADN/BSN = no money difference upon hiring. BSN is a vehicle to do something else - CRNA, FNP, ANP..etc.

I am looking at nursing schools for my daughter Megan. She would like to get her RN (2 yrs) so that she will have a good source of income while she pursues a medical degree (either nurse practitioner or MD) She plans on going to Texas A&M College Station. Could you elaborate about how you got your RN online?

As far as I know you complete your courses online and the clinical portion of the program at a hospital near you. You interact with your professors through a message board such as this, email, and sometimes through chat rooms. I don't know about exams but you either take them online or you go to a testing center. Hope this helps a little but your best course of action is to contact the schools your daughter would like to attend and ask for details.

I'm from San Antonio but not yet a student. I've applied at a couple of LVN schools so now I'm just waiting to see if I made it. If any one has any advice about the schools in SA please share. Any students from the Baptist Health System? All advice will be helpful. Thanks.

Hi texasnurse ~~ I graduated from San Antonio College in '84 which at that time was an excellent program. I don't know it they still have the same reputation or not. You don't mention how old you are, however, if I was just starting out I think I might go for a BSN. From what I've heard UTMB and Texas A&M have great programs. Since I was not able to afford a private college I never looked into the ones in SA. So I don't know what kind of nursing program they have at Incarnate Word, Our Lady, or St Mary's but these schools otherwise have an excellent reputation for being some of the best in the country.
With the nursing shortage as bad as it is I wouldn't think that money would be an issue since there seems to be so many scholarships, grants and loans being offered to those going into nursing for the first time (I don't know if this is the case for those of us who would like an ADN to BSN program ~ if anyone knows please let me know). I do have a BA in another field and if you are young and have no family obligations, and, am able and willing to put all you got into a four year degree I really think that is the path you won't regret.
